ChatGPT responds to you like a friend, but not necessarily your friend! These days, there is no one who is not excited by the strange and truly admirable developments of artificial intelligence and who does not know ChatGPT, but usually people’s reaction to the unveiling of ChatGPT is twofold. Some people consider this technology as the best solution for entrepreneurship and easier life. So that they wished that this technology would have entered the market a few years ago to complete their projects or help them in performing related tasks. If we want to evaluate this group’s point of view fairly, it must be said that the situation seems quite logical. Anyway, ChatGPT does a wide range of things.
So it is natural that entrepreneurs or even ordinary people love it. ChatGPT makes many tasks easier, increases the speed of many projects and avoids spending money. But that’s not all!
Why should we be cautious in using ChatGPT?
Despite all the accolades, ChatGPT comes with a lot of criticism. Many people are worried about an all-out crisis in the labor market. Even now, a lot of tools with artificial intelligence have messed up the human labor market. So interacting with a new arithmetic tool will be troublesome. Plus, while ChatGPT does a lot of things, it doesn’t really do any of them very well or perfectly, and you have to know how to work with it to get the results you need. This tool is kind of all-in-one. So it is natural that users do not trust it much. Also, most new technologies bring new privacy and security issues, and ChatGPT and OpenAI are no exception.
ChatGPT, like any other tool, should be used with caution!
ChatGPT’s developers made it publicly available after training and putting billions of diverse data into it, but ChatGPT also uses your conversations to learn itself, so if you want to protect your privacy, you need to know what options are available to you. ChatGPT tool, despite its fake appearance and the many help it gives to users, has a disastrous performance in the field of protecting their information. So that some experts accuse this tool of selling users’ information knowingly.
Enable incognito mode in ChatGPT
By default, OpenAI uses the messages you send to ChatGPT to train and improve its performance. But users have the power to prevent this from happening by using the platforms’ incognito mode. To enable it, open ChatGPT in your browser, click your username on the left, go to Settings, and click Show next to Data Controls. Once there, turn off ChatGPT History and Tutorials. From now on, every time you close the browser tab, your chat log with ChatGPT will disappear from your account. But that doesn’t mean it’s completely gone. Behind the scenes, OpenAI keeps track of your chat history for 30 days to check for abuse before permanently deleting it. In the Data Controls menu, there is an Export data option. This will not affect how OpenAI uses your information or delete what it has already collected, but it will give you a better idea of what OpenAI has on you. This may include chats you have not deleted and feedback you have given to ChatGPT replies. If there’s anything you’re not comfortable with, you can manually clear your chat history. Return to the ChatGPT interface, click your username and then Clear Conversations to clear your entire log at once, or click the trashcan icon next to any specific chat to clear it. Finally, if you no longer want to talk to ChatGPT, you can always delete your account, which you can do from the Data Controls panel.
Be careful what you say to ChatGPT
ChatGPT may produce text in a natural and genuine way, but don’t rely on it as a friend or advisor. The platform’s official support documentation tells users not to share any sensitive information with the chatbot because it’s difficult to be sure how your data will be used and analyzed in the future. The chatbot’s privacy policy says that OpenAI records data such as your conversations and the features you engage with, and may share “aggregated information” such as user statistics with third parties. For example, in response to lawful requests from law enforcement, the Company may also share users’ personal information, such as email addresses and location data, with “affiliated companies.” But this document is vague and does not specify who exactly these affiliates are.
Be very careful with third-party ChatGPT apps
We’ve covered what you need to know when using the ChatGPT platform, but that’s not the only place you’ll encounter a chatbot. This tool is becoming ubiquitous because OpenAI allows third-party apps and plugins to be built on top of it. And if you use either, there’s a whole new set of privacy and security issues to think about. The same caution should be exercised when using an app or browser extension built on top of ChatGPT
